Review

Just a little review of what I’ve been doing since school.

So. I am currently attending Hallmark Institute of Photography, located in Western Massachusetts. It is an amazing school. AMAZING. From the teachers to the equipment and facilities, I’m still in awe that I have the opportunity to walk through those halls as a student. I’ve met so many great people as well. I’ve only been there for about 4 months and it’s just been really great so far. It is very challenging and it takes commitment and hard work, but I don’t think I’d want it any other way.

When school started I never really knew much about digital photography. I had a few small point and shoots and an Olympus DSLR. I didn’t really know much about the functions and I didn’t really piece together in my mind how it all worked, when in reality f-stops and shutter speeds were basically the same as a film camera, which was all I had formal training in. So hallmark really helped me make the connection and worked my photography muscles. haha. We were taught how to use a reflector for outdoor portraiture, flash, backlighting, how to capture motion and show it, etc. The basics were what phase 1 was all about. Phase 2 consisted of working in the portrait and commercial studio using soft boxes, parabolic reflectors, scrims, grids, you name it. Lighting, posing and setting up products and still lives was what it was all about. We learned how to light silverware and glass recently, and have been getting more creative in the portrait studio.

We’ve got a bunch of assignments due after winter break, which I’ll definitely be posting and talking about for my first photo posts on here. I’m pretty excited about it and I hope it will be better than what I’ve been doing in the past now that I’m getting more of a hang of lighting and posing.

for now, check out my flickr site for recent shoots that I’ve done :)
