While all of my weddings this year were amazing in their own way, this one was one of my favorites because it involved a lot of the things I really enjoy. I love the woods, I love hiking, and I love DIY and rustic wedding details. This wedding included all of these things and I was way too excited to photograph everything! Let’s start with the boutonnieres. They were hand made with pieces of birch bark, lichen, and acorn tops – so cool, right?! To go along with that, there was a handmade birch bark and lichen ring holders for their beautiful and unique rings. The bride had a simple dress with cute teal shoes. The groom had pheasant feather bow tie with matching in color yeti socks. How cool is this couple? It get’s better.
The bride and groom are really into nature and hiking and they decided to have a small intimate ceremony on top of Bradbury Mountain in Pownal, Maine. I hiked up the mountain with the bride and bridesmaids as they sang girl scout and summer camp songs the whole way, it was great! Then she changed into her dress again and the ceremony was underway.
They chose to have only their closest friends and family to be there with them and had them stand in a circle around them while the ceremony continued. Each person attending read a part of the book “I Like You” By Sandol Stoddard Warburg. It was such a cute little story and perfect for them.
The couple watered a tree to form their union and declare their love, and then they kissed and were officially married!
I hiked down with the newlyweds and photographed them along the way on the beautiful wooded trails to the bottom. It was so fun to be able to take pictures this way. One of my favorite parts was at the bottom, the bride and groom took their decorated John Deere tractor back to the house where drinks, appetizers and dancing ensued.
It was such a wonderful way to spend a wedding. I love how unique couples can get with their day that is all about them and their love for each other. Hopefully I will get more adventurous couples like this!
